Most college students often have a hard enough time paying for tuition, let alone college books. In today's time, college books are becoming more and more expensive. One single new texbook can cost as much as $300 (depending on the subject). Every year, the school board may create "new" editions of these textbooks, meaning that it will be harder for students to find used books or borrow books from other friends. Most bookstores will allow the student to sell their book back, but the student doesn't even get half of what they paid for the book. One way to get around expensive book costs is to think about using a book rental service. Since most students will not have use for the books anymore once they pass their class, they could rent textbooks and not have to worry about excessive costs.
Rental books not only save college students money, but it is also good for the economy. Instead of reprinting new editions over and over, students can use the same book or share the book by renting it. There are a ton of ways to go about renting cheap college textbooks. One method is to use the Internet. Most stores that offer college books make it very convenient for students to reserve a book online. Sometimes, if the store is associated with the school/college, they will ask for a college id number. While this might seem like an extra step to take, it also gets college students discounts. Other stores do not require this. Most rental book stores also have an easy search engine where students can simply type in the name of the book they need including the edition and reserve it. Students will also be able to pay online.
Once the student pays for their rental, the book will be reserved and shipped to the student's home or dorm. They can either pick up the college books or have them mailed. Sometimes, there might be additional costs to have the college books mailed.
Renting college books that will only be used once is better than purchasing a brand new college textbook that may never be used again.
